I am a neuroaffiramtive counsellor. I believe it is helpful to recognise and acknowledge the differences in the way our brains are “wired” and to work on finding coping techniques as we know that the environment we live in is not designed to be kind to neurodiverse individuals. I strive to create a therapeutic space that is accessible and welcoming for individuals with neurodiversity.

These are some issues therapy may be able to help you with but this is not an exhaustive list of all the issues a neurodiverse person might struggle with and I am happy to discuss if I can help you whatever the issues you are dealing with.

  • You may feel you have grown up in a world that feels overwhelming and may still feel overwhelming. Whether dealing with sensory overwhelm or emotions feeling overwhelming.

  • Whether you were diagnosed in childhood, diagnosed later in life or have decided you identify with traits and are self-diagnosed.

  • Starting to understand yourself and your behaviours better can be really illuminating and a real relief.

  • With late diagnosis some people can feel grief and frustration and this is completely understandable. This is something we can work on together.

  • You may struggle with low self-esteem and find yourself comparing yourself to your peers.

  • You may have experienced bullying or feeling othered through your life.

  • An issue a lot of people can struggle with is Rejection Sensitivity dysphoria (RSD) this can mean we find feeling rejected extremely painful and we can even feel pain at perceived rejection as well.

  • Another issue is the need to “mask” and the feeling of exhaustion of keeping up masking with people. This can lead to burnout which can be something people need mental health support with.

  • Fatigue and exhaustion of dealing with a world that doesn't accommodate your brain diffferences can be an issue a lot of neurodiverse individuals struggle with.
